If it's the colonial and historical
feel that attracts you to Arrow-
town, you'll enjoy The Old Villa
bed and breakfast.

The Old Villa is actually only 10
years old but it's been built in classic
settler style, complete with polished
floorboards, copper fittings and a coal
range.

Two minutes' walk from the main
street of Arrowtown, the B&B made
a perfect base for us to explore the
laid-back sights of Arrowtown - in-
cluding the historic town centre and
the fascinating Chinese gold-mining
settlement - and to stretch our legs
and explore the hills above the town
on some scenic walks.

The Old Villa combines elegance
with the cosy atmosphere of a cottage.

Our room had a queen-sized bed with
a white quilted cover offset by a blue
mohair blanket (with chocolates
placed on the end).

Tea and coffee-making facilities
made an end-of-day cuppa convenient.

The ensuite features a huge claw-foot
bath, towels and smellies.

The second guest room has similar
amenities and a small balcony.

The comfy lounge with a large
open-fire, dining room and kitchen
are ideal for a late-night drink or the
ritualised breakfast that B&Bs are
famous for.  The breakfast table was
laden with homemade food, and even
big eaters such as us hardly made a
dent in it.

Outside, the cottage-style garden
blooms with delphiniums, hostas and
sweetheart roses, and is a peaceful,
scented place to chill out - with a
drink in hand - at the end of a day's
exploring.
